When Alice wanders out of Wonderland
Four years ago this month filmmaker, art collector and photographer David Raymond started taking photos of his wife Emily Crose dressed as Alice, the heroine of the beloved book. The project was sparked by a find at a vintage market, a dress that looked like it could only have come straight out of Alice’s closet.
“Alice is so pervasive in many cultures, but we have never seen her in contexts outside of the book…. so, we decided to place her around the globe. Her story is one of discovery; of finding the fantastical by walking through the doors of perception in the world around us,” says David.
After taking photos from the Peruvian Amazon to the Taj Mahal, the couple’s travels brought them to Vietnam where David was working on the film project Dong with artist Trong Gia Nguyen.
