Something we would like to take home: Lưu Tuyền

'Vỏ bọc không tái chế' - 42 x 42 x 40 - Tượng - 2013

‘Cover of no recycle’ – 42 x 42 x 40 – Sculpture – 2013

&: How did you hear about the Open Exhibition and why did you decide to submit your work?

Lưu Tuyền: I heard about the Open Exhibition and Workroom Four through a friend named Claire. She and I met at a workshop and shared our views on art as well as the work involving this subject. I see Work Room Four as a trustworthy art space and a great place for not only local but also foreign artists to meet and exchange ideas. Artists at Work Room Four work professionally and passionately. That’s why I decided to take part in this exhibition.

&: Do you consider yourself an artist?

Lưu Tuyền: I have always considers myself an artist, because that’s my job and I ardently appreciate what I’m pursuing. I put all my heart and soul into it.

&: When and where do you feel the most creative?

Lưu Tuyền: I feel most inspired when I am doing something creative. My inspiration is generated and constantly nurtured when I create art, and my art in turn becomes my unceasing energy and motivation to work anytime, anywhere.

&: What is art in your opinion?

Lưu Tuyền: In my opinion art is a way to express spiritual concepts man creates to serve himself. An artist reflects the subconscious obsessions, realities, hopes, possible futures, etc. of all of humanity, a group of people, or just himself through his work. Each artist on his own level expresses a relevant perspective, thoughts and ideals. Through art, an artist sends a message, poses questions, solves conflicts and provokes feelings. There also has to be a certain aesthetic value and outstanding uniqueness in a work of art.
