Design Spot: Nguyễn Hoàng Giang

By andofotherthings · On 7 Mar, 2014

You have seen Giang’s handiwork already, the 25 year old self-taught graphic designer from Hanoi designed the & Of Other Things logo. He has also done commissions for a number of organisations in the city; Nha San Collective, Manzi and The Onion Cellar to name just a few. His designs have a hand crafted, simple, slightly weird aesthetic that feel fresh compared to the overly finished, slick offerings of many young designers.

“I must work as hard as I can and see which medium fits me the best, then develop it for the rest of my life.”

Giang’s personal site is alive with strange inked characters that crawl over the page, bright animated flashing gifs, different styles he’s tried out , arty photographs and experiments with alternative mediums including animated scans of body parts.

“I must work as hard as I can and see which medium fits me the best, then develop it for the rest of my life,” says Giang. But it seems a shame to settle on just one medium when he’s clearly having so much fun playing around.

One current side project is ‘Black Hole’ CÁI HỐ ĐEN where Giang invites participants to tell him a secret and let him illustrate it. Time for confession?
