A few days before the opening of The Yard – the first European style market in Hanoi, Vietnam – & Of Other Things went to check out this new venue.

Located on the site of the former Hanoi Printing Factory, The Yard stretches from the small street Phó Đức Chính to the main dyke road Yên Phụ. The space includes a French style three-storey building plus a modern market building.

The best thing about The Yard is probably how green it is. Every corner of this place is filled with the colour green. A barringtonia tree silently shadows the faded walls, one window looks out to a mix of sunshine and green leaves and a tree lazily stretches its trunk in the summer sun. In places there’s also little trees growing in between the modern market building and the French building. It feels like a cool oasis from the heat of the mid summer Hanoi sun, where you can let your mind wander and gaze out though the large green French style windows up at the branches of the trees.

It gets our vote!

If you are keen to experience The Yard for yourself, you can head down to the opening ceremony this Sunday July 19 or follow their Facebook page. For now, let us take you on a short tour around this green market.
