Using vintage fabric, Moniko recrafts one of the most culturally recognisable garments in the world into one-of-a-kind clutches, purses and wristlets.

The various cuts and styles of kimonos are beautiful in and of themselves, but it’s the intricacy of the details, the perfect geometric patterns and hand-stitched storks that catch our eye. Unfortunately there just don’t seem to be that many occasions that call for a kimono these days. Moniko re-imagines and re-crafts the vintage material by focusing on the details that make each kimono unique, utilising the traditional symbols and patterns to create bags that are an immediate classic. The range of colour, fabric and patterns of the bags is as extensive as the historical use of, and occasion for, a kimono. While the Obi collection has a more formal, traditional feel to them, the Migi and Hidari wristlets look surprisingly young and fresh. We always love to see ways to use and keep the beauty of traditional art alive. Now it can now be paired with a little black dress. Or come to that, with baggy workmen pants and DMs. Whatever your style, it’s a good look.
