By andofotherthings · On 14 Oct, 2014

Following the success of the first exhibition at Mai Gallery last year, New Form sculpture group presents the second showcase named “Sculpture – Architecture – Space” at Manzi art space.

The works of four New Form artists fits right into Manzi café’s inviting atmosphere. New Form, the experimental sculpture project founded by Hanoian sculptors, pursues one main goal: to connect sculpture works with architectural living space. By doing so, the artists experiment with non-traditional materials, bring sculptures into lives and most importantly, renew the thinking and working methods of sculptors.

Thái Nhật Minh continues with his iconic bird-like shapes, but this time pressed flat in a reflective material, connecting outer and inner space. Hoàng Mai Thiệp presents embossment in wooden blocks, which were created for an independent installation work but are now mounted on the wall and become a part of the space. The works of Phạm Thái Bình apply module – a modern architectural concept to create a new structure, thus producing interesting visual impacts. Khổng Đỗ Tuyền constructs his pieces with ropes, using the whole floor, walls and windows as canvases for creation. This expands the scale as well as possibility of sculptural work.

By holding this exhibition, curator Nguyễn Anh Tuấn hopes the audience will learn about art by being in an artistic space rather than through lectures in class: “Even without general knowledge, viewers can still perceive and partly understand the sculptures. The pieces can trigger curiosity, an interest, or simply serve as a visually satisfying thing for them to look at. But little by little, by looking at and experiencing the work, the audience can understand the importance of visual art in daily life”.
