Design Spot: Collaboration at Kaleido
Singaporean design agency Studio Kaleido do some really meaningful and interesting work. But what makes them especially interesting to & Of Other Things is their collaborations with other creative endeavours in the city. While most designers are, of course, influenced by art, music, writing – everything – Kaleido really do walk the walk on this. They describe themselves as a ‘progressive, full-service design practice and curatorial think-tank’ offering design, curation and publishing. The Kaleido ‘Garage’ has put on numerous exhibitions and events, showcasing over 200 individuals – writers, poets, musicians, artists, designers – under titles including, The Art of Rebellion, GLYPHWERK, Synaesthesia, and the House of Incest ‘an ob/scene surrealist cross-disciplinary art rave’. These events demonstrate Kaleido’s ability to tap into and lead cutting edge culture in Singapore – that they genuinely ‘get’, and are part of, what is ‘happening’. Something arts organisations and brands seem keen to benefit from. Studio Kaleido is founder and designer Winnie Wu plus writer, editor and poet Amanda Lee Koe.
