CAMA Curated: Tracks to Get You Dancing at ASEAN Pride Festival

By & Of Other Things · On 17 May, 2014

Expect Stylish Nonsense, high heeled antics and music surfing the genres from psychedelic pop through to trumpet-punk-electronica.

CAMA’s Eliza Lomas is on a mission to find a huge array of great Asian music, digging through different times, countries and genres, with a regular monthly selection. This time she gives a taste of what to expect at this year’s ASEAN Pride Festival.

Artist: Stylish Nonsense
Place: Thailand

This much-loved Thai pair project a wall of awesome improvised sound that is as much danceable as it is incredibly musically proficient. This track blurs the line of synthy-electronica and raw guitar attitude. Even with just two members, expect a storm created from their set at ASEAN Pride.

Artist: Tô Lâm & The MIX
Place: Vietnam

No festival is complete without a slick high-heeled dance troupe right!? These guys are unbelievable… as the rest of us struggle to walk properly in high heels, To Lam and his troupe are making shapes in surreal fashion and will be a total highlight of the festival!

Artist: Protocol Afro
Place: Indonesia

This vibrant six-piece are super-festival-headliner material: catchy tracks, big groovy beats, euphoria-emitting-sound. Don’t miss them when the sun goes down.
●●

Artist: The Pinholes
Place: Singapore

Yay, The Pinholes are back in Hanoi! Psychedelic 60s pop coming from a Singaporean four-piece: this is not something you get to hear every day, and these guys are sure to put on an unforgettable performance.

Artist: XAI
Place: Vietnam

Quest wide edit (84)

There aren’t any tracks available online yet, they’re a brand new Hanoi band who just made their debut show at Quest Festival. I’m really excited about seeing XAI’s next live performance at ASEAN Pride. Combining members from DomDom music collective and one of Vietnam’s best indie-fem-punk bands GỗLim, plus Lizo ‘playing’ the mic, don’t miss this trumpet-punk-electronica outfit in the afternoon!
